Coffee: A Conversation

Hello coffee cup
What’s up?
I’m glad you’re still here
Where else would I be?
Being away from home gets old fast
Why’s that?
There are people I miss
Didn’t you talk to them this morning?
Yeah but it’s not the same
Why?
Hmmm not sure
Not sure about what?
What’s missing when I’m unsatisfied
What don’t you have?
… I’m feeling better
Did you find it?
Nope 🙂

Play It Again

Smokey wink and stolen glance
From beyond the microphone
Leather-bound hips surf the rising beat
A blue falcon riding red riffs
Electric talons plucking willing prey
Out of the back of the crowd
Play it again

Aliens

In the movie
Aliens swim around in your gut
Rip apart your insides
Until they bust out
I’ve got an alien
But I think mine got lost
Swims in my throat
Scaly ribs brush my esophagus
Pushes on the back of my eyes
Sometimes it hides and I forget
When it busts out
I think it’ll come out my mouth
Slime-toothed squid missile
A metaphor too big for my head
Questions bump around too
Maybe the alien knocked them loose
Maybe they feed it
Questions like where am I needed
Where am I wanted
Maybe that’s the alien
Or here’s the real mind fuck
Maybe I’m the alien

Leftovers

Deep in the bag
Overlooked uneaten
Cold stale acrobats
Tumbling into the bin
Unconsidered
Emigrants
Heap to heap
Left for the bacteria
Can they be forgotten
They were never known

Regressing

Sitting in the bathtub
Been a long time
Not sure what to do
No rubber duckies
Do I just sit here
Showers are faster
And warmer I think
Humming is echoey
I remember that now
Hesitant drip escapes the faucet
Plunks and echoes too
If I pull the plug
Will I get sucked down the drain
It’s not a silly thought
Happened to a friend of mine

Frank

A free Créme Brûlée
Is all it was
Free dessert is all
Nothing funny about that
Don’t laugh
The waiter was just nice
Who gets a free
Anything
Let alone a Créme Brûlée
